Hector James, the only competitor to par the course, won the spring away day at Ampfield on 14th May. John Roberts got his ball nearest in the 'Nearest the pin' event.
The forecast rain only made a brief appearance but didn't spoil a day's good golf.

Roger Stevens won this "fun" competition by equalling the course record score of 50 gross (net 6-under par) and 'aced' the 11th Hole. His 50 Stableford points included 8 "joker" bonus points.
In this event players can earn bonus points by doubling their Stableford points on 3 pre-declared (joker) holes. Simon Dewhurst earned 9 bonus points on his 3 jokers. The doubtful weather did not deter members from celebrating the 10th anniversary of the founding of the club.
The club chairman, Peter Merry, presented the Founder's Shield to the winner, Iain Powell (right). Iain's win was all the more remarkable because he won with a score of 3-under par, the exact same score as he returned to win last week's medal event. A fine sunny day did not produce scintillating scoring. Only Fouad "Ben" Benchiba managed to beat par to win the medal in this 2-part competition.
Players earn a star each time their tee-shot stays on the green. Roger Stevens had the biggest haul of stars (6) to claim the second prize. The 2024-25 Season which starts on 1st April 2024 will be the 10th year of Charlton Lakes Golf Club's operations. We hope all members will enjoy a pleasant and successful season of competitions.
