In April 2014, Robert Smith founded the Charlton Lakes Golf Community, supported by Valley Leisure who then managed the Andover leisure facilities. The aim was to facilitate inexpensive golf to all regardless of age, gender or ability. The demography evolved over time into a group of males who enjoyed a weekly opportunity to have a quick game of competitive golf. Consequently, the title word “Community” was changed to “Club”. Since 2014, Robert Smith has led the club as its chairman. He relinquished the post at the last AGM for health reasons. On 23rd April 2022 on Founder’s Day, the new Chairman, Peter Merry, presented him with an engraved golf trophy on behalf of all the members to mark those years of service.
