17/5/2022

17 members of the Club were rewarded with fine sunny conditions for their “away-day” at Ampfield Golf Club, nr. Romsey on Tuesday 17 May, courtesy of Alan Sellwood who kindly arranged the visit.
Ampfield is one of the finest par 3 courses in the South of England and it is a great pleasure to play on such a fine but taxing course.
The day’s golf was arranged as a pairs competition with the highest handicap player paired with the lowest handicap player and so on to give some equality to the pairings.
The main competition was won by the pairing of Hector James and Peter Merry who came home with a nett score of 126 beating close rivals Roger Stevens and Lionel Whyton on 128.

Founder's Day Commemoration

23/4/2022

In April 2014, Robert Smith founded the Charlton Lakes Golf Community, supported by Valley Leisure who then managed the Andover leisure facilities. The aim was to facilitate inexpensive golf to all regardless of age, gender or ability.
The demography evolved over time into a group of males who enjoyed a weekly opportunity to have a quick game of competitive golf. Consequently, the title word “Community” was changed to “Club”.
Since 2014, Robert Smith has led the club as its chairman. He relinquished the post at the last AGM for health reasons. On 23rd April 2022 on Founder’s Day, the new Chairman, Peter Merry, presented him with an engraved golf trophy on behalf of all the members to mark those years of service.

Picture shows Robert accepting the trophy in his home.

A Quota competition is variation of a stableford.
Players start with a "quota" of points equal to their handicap. The quota is incresed by the result of the player's stableford points  based  on the gross score on each hole. Alan Sellwood's 41 points beat the field in this fun game.
